Hi SFS! I'm Charlie Patel, a PhD researcher from Loughborough University, UK whose research focus on aquatic bugs (macroinvertebrates) in ponds and wetlands. My PhD focuses on sediment ponds in agricultural landscape which have been created through government initiatives which are designed to capture soil and nutrient runoff. Collaborating with the Environment Agency (EA the national environmental regulators for England), Rothamsted Research and farmers the research aims to quantify the biodiversity and conservation of sediment ponds. This will provide greater understanding of the wider benefits of sediment ponds for future land management decisions made by policymakers and farmers. Anyone interested in bugs, ponds, wetlands or agricultural land management come and say hi!
